Agency for Natural Resources and EnergyANRE to Start the Second Year of the Green Power Project-Use Green Power to Drive Japan!-

On July 1, 2014, taking the opportunity of the second anniversary of inaugurating the Feed-in Tariff Scheme for Renewable Energy, the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy (ANRE) will launch the second-year initiatives under the Green Power Project, aiming to encourage a national campaign to disseminate renewable energy. The initiatives will focus on the theme “Revitalizing Communities and People's Lives through Renewable Energy.”

Outline of the project

Establishing the concept “Use Green Power to Drive Japan!” on July 11, 2013, ANRE launched the Green Power Project on renewable energy, through which the future potential of Japan will be further developed.

The term “green power” refers to two things, namely renewable energy itself and the power of the individuals and communities who are involved in initiatives disseminating such renewable energy. Currently, renewable energy accounts for a mere 2.2% of Japan’s total electricity generation. In the FY2014 Green Power Project, ANRE aims to increase that ratio and will endeavor to proactively raise public awareness of the initiatives for revitalizing communities and enriching people’s lives through promoting renewable energy, in collaboration with a variety of activities to be implemented in various regions.

On the occasion of the beginning of the second year of the project, ANRE is scheduled to hold a series of events in the summer of 2014. In addition, local communities, municipalities and companies will collaboratively carry out related events.
