Second ASEAN-Japan Public-Private Dialogue on New Industries to Be Held- Making Japan and ASEAN Countries the Innovation Hub of Asia! -

With the aim of making Japan and ASEAN countries the innovation hub of Asia, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will hold the Second ASEAN-Japan Public-Private Dialogue on New Industries in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Thursday, July 30, 2015.

1. Background and overview

In recent years, ASEAN industrial structures have been developing beyond traditional models and are entering a new phase of international cooperation and expansion. Various new trends can be seen in strategic alliances between enterprises whose nationalities and business cultures differ, in particular, through business integration among small and medium enterprises, market expansion, and the success of business ventures across national boundaries.

In light of these trends, METI will hold the Second ASEAN-Japan Public-Private Dialogue on New Industries in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, aiming to establish an ecosystem of innovation (see Note) with Japan and ASEAN countries being the innovation hub of Asia.

Note: “Ecosystem” generally refers to a biological system. However, here it refers to systems of cooperation among enterprises, such as through economic dependency, cooperative and appropriately competitive relationships, and networks of investors, government institutions, and other entities that support this cooperation among enterprises.

Through the exchange of opinions between large enterprises, small and medium enterprises, venture businesses, and government institutions from Japan and ASEAN countries at this Dialogue, Japan and ASEAN countries aim to share a vision for developing new industries and to strengthen further cooperation between Japan and ASEAN countries.
