CoFesta 2015 Will Be Held as Part of the Initiatives to Further Convey Japan’s Content to the World-Conveying the attractiveness of Japan’s content to the world-

In 2015, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will hold CoFesta (Japan International Content Festival) 2015, an annual event. METI will form a cross-industry network through coordination between the content industry and various events held by entities from industries that are closely related to the content industry, thereby effectively conveying the attractiveness of Japan to the world.

1. Outline of the event

CoFesta is an annual project supporting related industries to further convey Japan’s various kinds of content to other countries, aiming to effectively disseminate the achievements exhibited at various events to other countries that are related to the content industry, including games, anime, manga, character mascots, broadcasting, music, and films, all of which Japan presents to other countries with pride, as well as other industries closely related to the content industry, including fashion and design.

Title of event: CoFesta (Japan International Contents Festival)
Organizer: CoFesta Executive Committee
Venues: Various cities across Japan and worldwide (for details of the events, visit the official CoFesta website)
Expected number of visitors: Around 2 million

2. Features of the event

In 2015, in order to further display Japan’s various kinds of content to other countries, core events were newly established in addition to the conventional official events and partner events. Various events including the four core events mentioned below are to be held simultaneously or consecutively.

  • Tokyo Game Show
  • Japan Content Showcase
  • Tokyo International Film Festival
  • Anime Japan

Among these events, Japan Content Showcase 2015, which will be held for the fourth time in 2015, will further promote the expansion of international business and further convey Japan’s content domestically and internationally as a combined market, crossing the borders of the content industries including films, broadcasting, music, and anime.
Also, aiming to effectively convey information on its events to the world, CoFesta 2015 will cooperate with JAPACON* and promote the introduction of Japan’s high-quality content through SNSs to the world (mainly TV programs and anime, which Japan presents to other countries with pride).

*Note: JAPACON is a portal site that was created for content in 2007, mainly led by TV broadcasting centers and associations for digital content rights for the purpose of conveying information on Japan’s content (such as TV programs, anime, and characters) domestically and internationally, promoting the introduction of Japan’s content to other countries and supporting entities in creating new business opportunities. JAPACON is collecting various kinds of information concerning Japan’s content and is disseminating Japan’s content to overseas buyers and fans of Japan’s content in an integrated manner.

Furthermore, in FY 2015, METI is also conducting a program titled “CoFesta Ambassadors,” in which about 160 international students from more than 30 countries who are fans of Japan’s content will proactively introduce the efforts of CoFesta 2015 to the world in order to make more overseas content users aware of such efforts.
In FY 2014, the CoFesta Ambassadors covered the CoFesta 2014 events, exchanged views with stakeholders and buyers of Japan’s content after having experienced the content, conducted PR activities for various events, submitted proposals to the content industry, and conducted other activities. In FY 2015, METI will continue the program, mainly focusing on core events and official events.

Through these CoFesta initiatives, METI will comprehensively support a series of processes for encouraging entities to develop their businesses overseas, including marketing activities making use of the opinions of CoFesta Ambassadors, promotion activities through SNSs, and business matching events, inviting people from around the world to participate. In FY 2015, the ninth year of the CoFesta event, METI will endeavor to strengthen the coordination between various events utilizing the CoFesta event as an opportunity to bridge the gaps between the content industry and other industries as well as utilizing the CoFesta Ambassadors, who are international students, to make efforts for the effective dissemination of information on Japan’s content and various related events.
