METI State Minister Takagi Visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE)

From May 14 to 15, 2016, Mr. Yosuke Takagi, State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and attended the fourth Abu Dhabi-Japan Economic Council (ADJEC). During his stay, State Minister Takagi had meetings with dignitaries of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, UAE.

1. Attending the Fourth ADJEC

State Minister Takagi attended the ADJEC, bringing people from major governmental organizations and companies in Japan and the UAE together to exchange views on fortifying economic relationships. At the meeting, the advancement of economic relationships through the ADJEC, including establishing cooperative relationships in such new fields as manufacturing and agriculture, has been affirmed, and State Minister Takagi expressed his willingness to proactively engage in efforts to fully realize the potential of Japan-UAE economic ties.

2. Meeting with dignitaries of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, UAE

  1. H.H. Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Crown Prince Court of Abu Dhabi (CPC), UAE
    • Along with exchanging views on the current state of the Japanese economy and Japan’s relevant economic policies, both sides reached the recognition that they will endeavor to further advance bilateral cooperation in the field of energy and other broad areas. In addition, both sides affirmed their cooperation relationship in upstream oil development, and exchanged views on the importance of continuous investment in such development. State Minister Takagi also encouraged support for the renewal of the oil concessions held by Japanese companies in Abu Dhabi.
  2. H.E. Mr. Suhail bin Mohamed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy, UAE
    • Both sides exchanged views on the trends in global oil markets and other issues, and shared the understanding of the importance of continuous investment in upstream development. In such discussion, State Minister Takagi encouraged support for the renewal of the oil concessions held by Japanese companies in Abu Dhabi.
  3. H.E. Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of State, in charge of new energy and environmental issues, and CEO of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), UAE
    • Both sides shared understanding of the importance of a stable supply of crude oil as well as continuous investment in upstream development, and State Minister Takagi encouraged support of the renewal of the oil concessions held by Japanese companies in Abu Dhabi, recognizing Japan’s contribution in the field of human resource development and technological cooperation in oil development. Both sides exchanged views on enhanced cooperation in a wide range of fields, including investment and energy conservation, toward the advancement of a cooperative relationship centered around the field of energy.
  4. H.E. Mr. Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Affairs Authority (EAA), UAE
    • Aiming at the further enhancement of economic relationships based on the solid partnership in the field of energy, both sides exchanged opinions in a wide range of fields, including industries/infrastructure, education, healthcare and cutting-edge technologies. In addition, both side affirmed its existing cooperation in upstream oil development and State Minister Takagi encouraged support of the renewal of the oil concessions held by Japanese companies in Abu Dhabi.
  5. H.E. Mr. Ali Majed Al Mansoori, Chairman of the Department of Economic Development (ADDED), UAE
    • Toward the deeper business relationships between the two countries, the importance of Japanese companies’ business developments in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, UAE was affirmed through the ADJEC and other opportunities, which have been contributing to Abu Dhabi-led industrial diversification, while both sides exchanged views towards the further development of strategically-important economic ties.

3. Exchanging views with stakeholders of Japanese-affiliated companies in the UAE

Taking advantage of the opportunity provided by this visit to the UAE, State Minister Takagi held a meeting with people from Japanese-affiliated companies developing business in the country and exchanged views on the current state of business, future perspectives and other issues.
