The Third ASEAN-Japan Public-Private Dialogue on New Industries to be Held - For the further productivity growth in the service industry in Asia -

On June 22, 2016, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will hold the third ASEAN-Japan Public-Private Dialogue on New Industries in Bangkok, Thailand, aiming at the productivity growth in the service industry in Japan and ASEAN.

1. Background and overview

As the service industry has made advances in ASEAN region’s economy, the industry as well as agriculture and manufacturing industries has become a driving force bolstering economic growth in the region. In light of this, the productivity growth in the service industry will be an essential element in boosting the economic growth of the region.

Looking at Japan, enhancing the productivity of the domestic service industry is also an important issue toward achieving the goal of a nominal GDP of 600 trillion yen, and Japan has been engaging in a variety of efforts to that end.

Against this backdrop, METI will hold the third ASEAN-Japan Public-Private Dialogue on New Industries in Bangkok, Thailand, aiming at further development of the service industry both in Japan and in ASEAN economies.

At the dialogue, people from companies and governmental organizations related to the service industry in Japan and the ASEAN region will make presentations about service policy, introduce successful case examples and exchange views in a panel discussion, aiming at closer collaboration between Japan and ASEAN in the service industry and further enhancement of their existing cooperation.
