The Second Japan-Myanmar Policy Dialogue on Distribution and Logistics Held
On Thursday, September 1, 2016, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), jointly with the Ministry of Commerce, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, held the second Japan-Myanmar Policy Dialogue on Distribution and Logistics in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.
1. Summary of the outcomes
In light of the revision to Myanmar’s Foreign Investment Law and the revision to the Notification from the Myanmar Investment Commission, METI confirmed the current state of the investment environment in the field of distribution with the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Planning and Finance, Myanmar. In addition, both sides shared information on the efforts for fostering human resources in the field.
In response, the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Planning and Finance stated that they have been advancing the relaxation of regulations over foreign-invested companies since the previous Japan-Myanmar dialogue and that concerning the investment by foreign-invested retailers, they are preparing for the coming into force of the new investment law and will endeavor to consider the framework under which domestic and foreign-invested companies will jointly develop business; and, to this end, the Ministry of Commerce will fully cooperate with Japan.
Both countries agreed that they will continue to hold dialogues aiming to further strengthen their relationship in the field of distribution.
