METI Auto Parts and Software Industries Office Established
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) hereby announces that it has established a new office called “Auto Parts and Software Industries Office” under the Automobile Division of the Manufacturing Industries Bureau. The office will aim to further effectively advance support measures for the automobile industry in the field of automobile parts and software, thereby fortifying competitiveness throughout the industry.
The Japanese automobile industry is the most important backbone of the national and regional economy in Japan, and the source of its competitiveness lies in the high-value added, domestic automobile parts developed by the industry. The business environment in the industry is dramatically changing, particularly due to the advanced development of new technologies, e.g., autonomous driving technology and next-generation cars; therefore, a driving safety support system (DSSS) and other automobile software, as well as automobile parts, are becoming more important sources for competitiveness.
Against the backdrop to this situation, METI decided to establish the new office under the Automobile Division of the Manufacturing Industries Bureau. The office will aim to further effectively advance support measures for the automobile industry in the field of automobile parts and software, thereby fortifying competitiveness throughout the industry.
