METI State Minister Matsumura Visited the Philippines
From November 2 to 5, 2016, Mr. Yoshifumi Matsumura, State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, visited Manila and Cebu, the Philippines. In Manila, he held a meeting with three deputy director generals of Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA). In Cebu, he attended the Second Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Intersessional Ministerial Meeting. At the meeting, aiming to conclude a comprehensive, high-level agreement that will contribute to companies developing business in the East Asian region, participants discussed future approaches to advancing negotiations mainly in the fields of trade in goods, trade in services and investment.
1. Meeting with three deputy director generals of the Second Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (PEZA)
State Minister Matsumura exchanged views with three deputy director generals of the PEZA, including the H.E. Mr. Justo Porfirio LL. Yusingco, Officer- in Charge, Deputy Director Generals, regarding the development of the business environment in the Philippines and other issues, including a commitment to further facilitating business activities in the economic zone, in which many Japanese companies are developing business.
2. Second RCEP Intersessional Ministerial Meeting

Second RCEP Intersessional Ministerial Meeting
At the Second RCEP Intersessional Ministerial Meeting held in Cebu from November 3 to 4, participants discussed future approaches to advancing negotiations mainly in the fields of trade in goods, trade in services and investment, and they confirmed that they will further advance such negotiations.
In addition, taking advantage of the timing of the RCEP meeting, State Minister Matsumura held a meeting with the H.E. Mr. Wang Shouwen, Vice Minister, Ministry of Commerce, China, and both sides confirmed that Japan and China will closely collaborate with the aim of the conclusion of a comprehensive and high-quality RCEP agreement.
