Study Group for Japan International Exposition 2025 to be Established
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will establish a Study Group for Japan International Exposition 2025 to verify basic concepts concerning the exposition submitted by Osaka Prefecture and to discuss related governmental issues concerning approaches to announcing Osaka’s candidacy as a host city of the exposition.
1. Background and purpose
In June 2016, Osaka Prefecture established a Study Group for Basic Concepts of the International Exposition 2025 in Osaka aiming to attract an international exposition to Osaka Prefecture in 2025, compiled discussion results of the study group into a draft report concerning such basic concepts, and submitted the report, on November 9, 2016, to the Government of Japan.
METI hereby announces that it will establish a Study Group for Japan International Exposition 2025, placing METI as its secretariat, to verify the basic concepts submitted by Osaka Prefecture and to discuss related governmental issues concerning approaches to announcing Osaka’s candidacy as a host city of the exposition.

The study group will hold its first meeting on December 16 (Fri.), 2016. METI will provide details of the meeting on its website at a later date. Dates of the second and following meetings are not yet fixed.
