Supporters for the Japan Pavilion in the Astana EXPO 2017 Newly Designated
On December 6, 2016, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) designated three supporters for the Japan Pavilion in the Astana EXPO 2017 (hereinafter referred to as the “Japan Pavilion Supporters”), namely, Mr. Denjiro Yonemura, science producer, Mr. Utazo Katsura, rakugo performer, and the mascots Morizo & Kikkoro.
1. Outline of the Astana EXPO 2017
The Astana EXPO 2017 will be held from June 10 to September 10, 2017, in Astana City, the Republic of Kazakhstan, as the first International EXPO held in Central Asia focusing on the theme “Future Energy.”
In February 2015, the Cabinet decided that the government of Japan should appoint the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) as an organizer, and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), and the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) as co-organizers, and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) as a participating organization for the Astana EXPO 2017.
2. Outline of the supporters
To demonstrate the attractiveness of the Japan Pavilion to the wider public, METI has been facilitating a project under which the METI minister designates people who are playing active roles in a variety of fields as Japan Pavilion Supporters.
METI had already designated Mr. Tatsuo Kamon, singer and songwriter, as the first Japan Pavilion Supporter. The new designations made on December 6, 2016, bring the total number of the Japan Pavilion Supporters to four.
3. Other information
To demonstrate the attractiveness of the Japan Pavilion to a wider public audience, Japan will hold a press conference marking the 100th day before the opening day of the expo and release the details of the Japan Pavilion, consisting mainly of information on displays.
