Application to Host the 2025 World Exposition

On April 24 (same day local time), Mr. Masato Kitera, Ambassador of Japan to France, visited the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) and submitted a letter from the Prime Minister of Japan to Mr. Vicente Gonzalez Loscertales, Secretary General of the BIE, as the document declaring Japan’s bid to host the International Registered Exposition.
Mr. Sadayuki Sakakibara, the Chairman of the 2025 Japan World Expo Committee and the Japan Business Federation; and Mr. Ichiro Matsui, the President of the Committee and Governor of Osaka Prefecture, were also present at the submission.

A report was compiled on the basis of discussions by business community representatives, experts in various fields, representatives from regional municipalities and others at the “2025 World Exposition Assessment Committee” from December 2016. On the basis of that report, on April 11 the Cabinet approved the plan to apply to host World Expo 2025 in Osaka and submit a letter from the Prime Minister of Japan to Mr. Vincente Gonzalez Loscertales, Secretary Generall of the BIE, as the document declaring Japan's bid to host the International Registered exposition.
