Smart Safety Seminar to be Held Importance of smart safety and industrial safety in supply chains

On July 31, 2017, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will hold a seminar titled “Smart Safety Seminar” to discuss case examples of leading companies engaging in smart safety efforts, e.g., through utilization of IoT and other advanced technologies. Taking advantage of this seminar, METI will also hold an exhibition to showcase such IoT and other advanced technologies.

1. Outline of the seminar

Many Japanese companies are facing difficulties in maintaining plants due to the retirement of an increasing number of expert employees who have been playing key roles in the management practices involving maintenance and safety, as well as the exasperated aging process caused by delays to overall renovations. To address this situation, it is increasingly important for companies to engage in smart safety efforts utilizing IoT and other advanced technologies as a means for achieving a balance between maintenance of safety and improvement of productivity.

As part of the effort to achieve this goal, METI has been advancing the revision of systems under which businesses engaging in smart safety efforts are able to enjoy preferential measures.

Examples:
Super Accredited Businesses System under the High Pressure Gas Safety Act
Gold-Safety Accredited Businesses System under the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Safety Act, etc.

METI hereby announces that it will hold a seminar titled “Smart Safety Seminar,” an exhibition of IoT and other advanced technologies, and other events free of charge, targeting businesses having plants in the fields of petroleum refining, petrochemistry, general chemistry, electricity, and iron and steel, focusing on the following topics.

METI hopes that many people will attend the seminar. If you wish to attend, please register in advance as early as possible as the capacity is limited.
