METI Minister Seko Holds a Meeting with H.E. Dr. Ildefonso Guajardo Villarreal, Secretary of Economy, Mexico

In the afternoon of July 18 (Tue.), 2017, Mr. Hiroshige Seko, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, held a meeting with H.E.Dr. Ildefonso Guajardo Villarreal, Secretary of Economy, Mexico, during Secretary Guajardo’s visit to Japan.

Outline of the meeting

Minister Seko cited the steady development of Japan-Mexico economic ties, as seen in the implementation of the Japan-Mexico Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) in 2005 that brought about an almost doubling of bilateral trade value, an increase in the number of Japanese companies developing business in Mexico to over 1,000.  He also mentioned Japan’s close watch of trends in renegotiations involving the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Both sides broadly exchanged their views concerning agendas relating to international trade in general, including the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement.
