The Fifth IoT Lab Selection Held Winners were selected and recognized at the event

On March 6 (Tue.), 2018, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the IoT Acceleration Lab held the Fifth IoT Lab Selection to select and recognize IoT-based outstanding projects and selected and recognized the winners of the Grand Prix, Semi Grand Prix, and Examiner Special Award.

1. Outline

With the advent of IoT, big data and AI, industries and society as a whole are seeing significant changes all over the world. In response to this situation, it is necessary for Japan, as well as other countries, to create new IoT business models, uncover and develop IoT platform creators, and use them as a driving force for new growth.

The IoT Acceleration Lab was established to uncover and select advanced IoT projects and provide the selected projects with thorough support in terms of collaboration with enterprises, finance and regulations, and develop environments in which the results of the projects can be implemented on a large scale, e.g., regulatory reforms or creation of new systems.

2. Winners of the Fifth IoT Lab Selection

As part of the efforts, the IoT Acceleration Lab called for a broad range of IoT-based projects and, on March 6 (Tue.), 2018, held the Fifth IoT Lab Selection event. At the event, concerning seven projects selected by the first and second examinations, finalists made presentations before the public as the final examination and the winners were selected. The IoT Acceleration Lab recognized the winners of the Grand Prix and Semi Grand Prix as follows.

Grand Prix
Winner: BONX Inc.
Title of project: BONX for Business – Smoother communication makes workplace accelerate
Semi Grand Prix
Winner: Optical Comb, Inc.
Title of project: Monodukuri IoT Achieved by Novel Technologies
Examiner Special Award
Winner: Team Tomo Cloud, Takei Laboratory, Chiba University
Title of project: LT Monitor (Lymphedema Tomographic)

In collaboration with government-related organizations, financial institutes, venture capital businesses and other support organizations, the IoT Acceleration Lab will provide the finalists of the seven projects, including the winners of the three projects, with financial support, support from escorting mentors, and support for regulatory reforms and standardization.
