METI to Hold Japan-wide “Safety Support Car” Test-drive Events during the National Autumn Traffic Safety Campaign

"Safety Support Car" as a source of a brighter future

September 12, 2018

Centered around a period of the National Autumn Traffic Safety Campaign from September 21 (Fri.) to 30 (Sun.), 2018, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will hold Japan-wide “Safety Support Car” Test-drive Events during the National Autumn Traffic Safety Campaign from September 14 (Fri.) to October 31 (Wed.), 2018, in cooperation with organizers of regional campaigns across Japan. These events aim to raise public awareness of “Safety Support Cars”--automobiles with advanced technologies for driving safety such as built-in automatic braking systems that contribute to preventing traffic accidents and reducing injuries to people involved in such accidents--and also aim to provide visitors with an opportunity to actively test drive these vehicles. During this period, METI will hold 92 test drive events in Safety Support Cars in 33 Prefectures, including Tokyo.

In addition, METI will exhibit an information booth for awareness raising of “Safety Support Cars” at the 31st International Electric Vehicle Symposium & Exhibition (EVS 31).

METI hopes that many of you will visit the events and exhibitions, experience the effectiveness of these vehicles and further raise your awareness of the importance of traffic safety.
