On October 23, 2018, in cooperation with the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will hold, in Beijing, an event consisting of three parts; i) symposium, ii) an elderly care industries networking event, and iii) an exhibition of welfare equipment, aiming to promote new cooperation between Japan and China as part of bilateral efforts for addressing an aging society and to encourage exchange among the business communities in Japan and China.
1. Background and purpose
The government of Japan stipulated the Basic Principles of the Asia Health and Wellbeing Initiative, a policy approved by the Headquarters for Healthcare Policy on July 29, 2016, and revised on July 25, 2018, and since then, under the initiative, Japan has been proactively promoting efforts to achieve a society of health and longevity with social and economic vitalization in which people across Asia are able to address changes derived from the aging society and live health-conscious lives.
At the Japan-China summit meetings held in Da Nang in November 2017 and in Tokyo in May 2018, the leaders reached a commitment that Japan and China should promote new cooperation in efforts for addressing the aging society and encourage exchange among the business communities in Japan and China. Moreover, METI Minister Seko and NDRC Chairman He concluded the Memorandum on the Development of Cooperation in the Services Industry, and under the memorandum, they agreed to hold a symposium involving the field of aging society as a kickoff event of the cooperation.
METI hereby announces that on October 23, 2018, in cooperation with NDRC, METI will hold, in Beijing, an event consisting of three programs; i) symposium, ii) an elderly care industries networking event, and iii) an exhibition of welfare equipment (the foregoing programs of networking event and exhibition will be organized by Japan External Trade Organization, as titled JETRO Japan-China Elderly Care Industries Networking Event and Exhibition of Welfare Equipment). The event will bring together officials from related ministries and agencies in Japan and China, including local governments of China, nursing-care service providers in Japan and China, manufacturers of welfare equipment and others.
At the symposium, Japan will explain its nursing care systems and services as well as welfare equipment, while the government of China will provide information on the current situations of China’s aging society and nursing care. In the exhibition, METI will hold a business matching event between nursing-care service providers and manufacturers of welfare equipment in Japan and businesses in related industries in China.
Through holding the event, METI will contribute to China’s efforts for addressing an aging society and encourage nursing-care service providers and manufacturers of welfare equipment in Japan to develop business in China.
