In light of the proposals formulated by the Electricity and Gas Market Surveillance Commission (EGC), the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) revised, on September 28, 2018, the Guidelines Concerning the Management of the Electricity Retail Business.
In response to the full liberalization of entry of a variety of businesses into the electricity retail market, the guidelines were established in January 2016 to show related businesses the approaches to observing the Electricity Business Act and other relevant laws and regulations and to encourage related businesses to voluntarily engage in appropriate efforts. Following this, the guidelines were revised in July 2016 and June 2017 in light of environments and situations around the start of the full liberalization.
In light of the proposals formulated by EGC, METI revised the guidelines in terms of the approaches to disclosing composition of energy sources and other points, considering the future introduction of an indirect auction system involving the utilization of interconnected power lines and the scheduled establishment of a new trading market of non-fossil fuel energy value.
