METI to Hold CEATEC JAPAN 2018 “Connected Industries” Symposium

“Connected Industries” is Japan’s concept framework in which industries will create new added value and the solutions to various problems in society through connectedness of various facets of modern life. As part of the efforts for promoting the policy concept, on October 16, 2018, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will hold a symposium at a part of the CEATEC JAPAN 2018 exhibition site.

This symposium will explain an overview of Japan’s past efforts involving the Connected Industries policy. Following this, focusing on three subjects: (1) efforts for promoting the utilization of industrial data, (2) collaborative efforts between AI venture businesses and large or mid-ranking companies, and (3) development of human resources expertized in the field of AI under the Connected Industries policy, it will hold a panel discussion to exchange views on the past efforts and future perspectives concerning these subjects.

1. Background and purpose

“Connected Industries” is Japan’s concept framework in which industries will create new added value and the solutions to various problems in society through connectedness of various facets of modern life, including humans (including our roles as consumers and suppliers), machines, systems, companies. Since the release of the policy concept in March 2017, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has been advancing efforts to achieve the policy concept.

As part of these efforts, on October 16, 2018, METI will hold an event titled ““Connected Industries” Symposium” at a part of the CEATEC JAPAN 2018 exhibition site.

This symposium will explain an overview of Japan’s past efforts involving the Connected Industries policy concept. Following this, focusing on three subjects: (1) efforts for promoting the utilization of industrial data, (2) collaborative efforts between AI venture businesses and large or mid-ranking companies, and (3) development of human resources expertized in the field of AI under the Connected Industries policy, it will hold a panel discussion to exchange views on the past efforts and future perspectives concerning these subjects.
