In December 2017, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) formulated and released the philosophies and skill sets of the Omotenashi Skills Standards, a compilation of service and hospitality skills that on-site personnel in the service industry should master.
METI hereby announces that it revised the standards as follows. In addition, METI will start a new individual-based certification program in October 2018 based on the new standards and will promote the program.
1. Revision of the philosophies and skill sets of the standards
The Omotenashi Skills Standards, a compilation of skills that on-site personnel in the service industry should master across sectors, focuses on viewpoints that such personnel should take and philosophies concerning processes that such personnel should carry out in providing omotenashi services. METI hereby announces that it revised the standards as follows.
2. Individual-based certification program based on the Omotenashi Skills Standards
METI will start a basic certification program based on the philosophies and skill sets stipulated in the Omotenashi Skills Standards. This program will be operated by a consortium of associations represented by the Service Design Engineering Council.
