Trade Remedy Seminar to be Held

Toward Effective Use of Trade Remedy Measures including Anti-Dumping and Countervailing Measures

October 22, 2018

On November 14 (Wed.), 2018, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will hold an open public seminar in Tokyo to facilitate Japanese industry’s understanding of utilization of anti-dumping and countervailing measures. METI will invite experts with deep knowledge and experience of such measures from the WTO Secretariat, the governments of the EU and Brazil, U.S. and Japanese legal professionals, and Japanese industries. The participants will discuss case examples of the benefits of increased facilitation in application and timely use of such measures in their respective countries.

Overview

In recent years, cases of dumping inexpensive imports have been increasing against the backdrop of global excess capacity. This has led to increasingly effective uses of trade remedy measures including anti-dumping and countervailing measures aiming to restore level playing fields for competitive environments in global markets.

The presenters and panelists for this seminar will be invited from the WTO Secretariat, the governments of the EU and Brazil, U.S. and Japanese legal professionals, and Japanese industries. Reflecting on the above mentioned global trends, they will discuss case examples of the benefits of increased facilitation in application and timely use of such measures in their respective countries.
