METI State Minister Isozaki Visits Tianjin, China

From October 19 (Fri.) to 21 (Sun.), 2018, Mr. Yoshihiko Isozaki, State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, visited Tianjin, China. He attended the 11th Trilateral Content Industry Forum, a meeting which brings together vice minister-level officials and other representatives of companies from Japan, China and the Republic of Korea (ROK).

1. 11th Trilateral Content Industry Forum

The Trilateral Cultural Content Industry Forum is an international meeting which brings together representatives from the public and private sectors related to the content industries in Japan, China and the ROK. Since its inauguration in 2002, it has been held periodically with the aim to provide opportunities for participants to continuously exchange information on the policies of and trends in the field of content and to create business opportunities between industries in these countries. The 11th Trilateral Content Industry Forum this year was held in Tianjin, China, bringing together vice minister-level governmental officials and representatives of companies in related industries from these countries. It provided opportunities for government representatives to hold meetings between them and for other parties to host joint-operated booths at the exhibition and hold business matching events.

On October 19 (Fri.)

(1) Japan-China bilateral meeting

Venue: InterContinental Tianjin Yujiapu Hotel & Residences
Outline: Both sides exchanged views on: promotion of Japan-China exchange in the field of films in accordance with the Film Co-production Agreement between Japan and China; Japan’s requests for China to relax its regulations over content and make them transparent; promotion of Japan-China-ROK content exchange under the forum; and other issues.

(2) Japan-ROK bilateral meeting

Venue: InterContinental Tianjin Yujiapu Hotel & Residences
Outline: Both sides exchanged views on promotion of Japan-ROK collaboration in the content industry, future potential of e-sports, and other issues.

On October 20 (Sat.)

(1) Inter-government Conference

Venue: InterContinental Tianjin Yujiapu Hotel & Residences
Outline: The three countries agreed on “OUR I POOL,” a program in which the three countries collaboratively call public attention to their qualities and genuine content and promote content trading; and establish industrial cooperation bodies to develop companies from the three countries in a harmonious manner. Following this, they held discussions on future continuous promotion of trilateral exchanges in the content industry.

(2) Attending an Exhibition Forum and visiting Joint-Exhibition by the three countries

Venue: Binhai New Area Cultural Center and Binhai New Area Cultural Theater Center
Outline: The representatives from the three countries attended an exhibition forum to witness a signing ceremony for an agreement for the establishment of industrial cooperation bodies. They agreed that the following organizations will lead the bodies: the Visual Industry Promotion Organization (VIPO) for Japan, the China Arts and Entertainment Group for China, and Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) for the ROK. In addition, State Minister Isozaki and the vice minister-level government officials of China and the ROK visited the Joint-exhibition booths.

(3) Visiting a plant operated by Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. in the Tianjin Economic and Technological Development Area (TEDA)

Location: TEDA
Outline: State Minister Isozaki visited a TEDA plant run by Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., toured the production site and exchanged views with stakeholders concerning environmental measures taken by Toyota in China.
