On October 22, 2018, the First Japan-EU High-level Industrial, Trade and Economic Dialogue was held in Tokyo.
On October 22, 2018, from 3p.m. to 5p.m., the First Japan-EU High-level Industrial, Trade and Economic Dialogue was held in Tokyo. Following the dialogue, a Joint Press Release was issued.
From the Japanese side, Mr. Hiroshige Seko, Minister for Economy, Trade and Industry, Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs and officials from relevant ministries, along with Mr. Jyrki Katainen, Vice-President of the European Commission for Jobs, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness and other European officials participated in the dialogue.
In the Dialogue, both sides held fruitful discussions on various challenges Japan and the EU face in the field of industry, trade and economy such as international trade, digital economy, investment, energy, environment and climate change. They confirmed the importance of their continued cooperation in addressing these challenges.
Moreover, following the dialogue, European Investment Bank (EIB), Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI) exchanged memoranda of cooperation between the three organizations.

The Japan-EU High Level Industrial, Trade and Economic Dialogue between Minister Seko, Minister Kono, and Vice-President Katainen was established on the occasion of the 25th Japan-EU Summit held in July 2018 in order to hold strategic discussions on a range of topics concerning industry, trade and economy in close cooperation with relevant Ministries and Directorate-Generals of Japan and the EU.
