Commendation Ceremony for2018 Factory Greening Award Program Winner to be Held

METI Minister's Award recognizes efforts in beautifying and development of green factories

October 26, 2018

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has been conducting the Factory Greening Award Program aiming to recognize factories and businesses that have proactively promoted greening of their factories and made a remarkable achievement in improvement of the environments inside and outside their factories. METI hereby announces that it has determined two winners of the METI Minister’s Award under the FY2018 award program.

On October 31 (Wed.), 2018, METI will hold a commendation ceremony to recognize the winners, taking the opportunity of the 37th National Assembly of Factory Greening Promotion Initiatives, an event organized by the Japan Greenery Research and Development Center.

1. Outline of the award program

The award program aims to recognize businesses that operate factories under the mindset stipulated in the Factory Location Law, proactively promote greening of their factories and have made a remarkable achievement in improvement of environments inside and outside their factories. Through this program, METI aims to encourage businesses to further engage in promotion of factory greening.

Efforts for promoting greening of factories will help to establish a favorable relationship between factories and their nearby environments and will further enhance harmonization between factories and community environment as well as society in general. Moreover, improvement of environments on the premises through factory greening is expected to relax employees, and such environments will lead to further increases in productivity as well.

From these standpoints, since its inauguration in 1982, METI has conducted the award program 37 times as of FY2018 and has recognized 171 factories and businesses as winners of the METI Minister’s Award as of FY2017.

As for the screening process, according to the nominations by governors of respective prefectures, METI sorted the factories that are winners of the Director-General’s Award of a Regional Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry, and conducted field surveys for the screened factories. Following this, based on the screening results of an examination committee of outside experts, METI selected and determined the winners of the METI Minister’s Award.

In addition to these winners, METI determined the winners of the Director-General’s Award of a Regional Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry, while the Japan Greenery Research and Development Center determined the winners of the Chairperson’s Award of the Japan Greenery Research and Development Center and other awards.
