Agency for Natural Resources and Energy
As part of a project for promoting education on energy, the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy (ANRE) held a Wall Newspaper Contest on the theme of “Our Daily Lives and Energy”, an initiative targeting elementary school children.
ANRE will invite children who worked on the top-eight school newspapers to the Energy and Environmental Education Forum to be held at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation on March 3, 2019, and will honor them as winners of the contest.
1. Purpose of the contest
This contest aims to encourage elementary school children to have interest in energy issues, foster their sense of commitment in using energy, and motivate them to take practical actions for energy conservation in their home and schools.
ANRE has been holding a Wall Newspaper Contest upholding the subject of “Our Daily Lives and Energy,” targeting groups consisting of two or more fourth- to sixth-grade elementary school children as applicants and has been honoring outstanding newspapers as winners of the contest. The FY2018 contest is the fourth such contest.
2. Results of the contest
In the FY2018 contest, ANRE received 446 newspapers from 1,278 school children and selected 34 newspapers as winners as a result of screenings through the primary examination and the secondary examination in five regional blocks across Japan. In January 2019, based on the final examination for these 34 winners, ANRE determined: one winner for the METI Minister’s Award; one winner for the ANRE Commissioner’s Award; three winners for the Special Awards of the Japan Association of Energy and Environmental Education; three winners for the Chair’s Special Awards of the Examination Committee; and eight winners for the Excellent Awards, which are shown in the Appendix attached to the Japanese language press release.
