Joint Event to be held for the Commendation Ceremony of FY2018 New Diversity Management Selection 100 and Announcement of FY2018 Nadeshiko Brands

February 28, 2019

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) annually selects outstanding enterprises that engage in efforts for providing a variety of human resources with opportunities to exercise their potential to the greatest extent possible, creating innovations and other value under the New Diversity Management Selection 100 program. In addition, METI annually selects outstanding enterprises engaging in pioneering efforts for diversity management under the Diversity Management Selection 100 Prime program. Moreover, jointly with the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE), METI annually selects outstanding TSE-listed enterprises that encourage women’s success in the workplace as Nadeshiko Brands.

On March 22 (Fri.), 2019, METI will hold a joint event for the FY2018 New Diversity Management Selection 100 commendation ceremony and the announcement of FY2018 Nadeshiko Brands, and announce selected enterprises under these FY2018 programs. Moreover, representatives from the selected enterprises under the Diversity Management Selection 100 Prime program will provide presentations on their approaches for overcoming challenges and promoting diversity management.

1. Outline of the New Diversity Management Selection 100 and the Diversity Management Selection 100 Prime programs

To strengthen Japanese enterprise competitiveness while facing economic globalization and an aging society with fewer children, Japanese enterprises need to promote diversity management, which provides diverse human resources, including women, foreign nationals, the elderly and people with disabilities, with opportunities to exercise their potential to the greatest extent possible and to take part in the value creation process.

Since the inauguration of the Diversity Management Selection 100 program in FY2012 to expand the base on which enterprises will engage in such management, METI has been selecting and recognizing outstanding enterprises committed to efforts for empowering diverse human resources toward business achievements.

In addition, under the Diversity Management Selection 100 Prime program, METI has been selecting outstanding enterprises out of those that have already been recognized under the existing programs and that still strive for diversity management under the Diversity 2.0 program from a mid- to long-term perspective.

2. Outline of the Nadeshiko Brands

Since FY2012, METI and the TSE have been jointly selecting TSE-listed outstanding enterprises engaged in efforts for encouraging the empowerment of women in the workplace. These “Nadeshiko Brands” are attractive investments for investors who place an emphasis on improving corporate value in the mid and long term. Through this effort, METI and the TSE aim to promote investment in such enterprises and accelerate enterprise efforts for encouraging women’s success in the workplace.

In the FY2018 initiative, METI and the TSE will select outstanding enterprises for a new category called “Semi-Nadeshiko Brands” in addition to the existing Nadeshiko Brands and will make a “List of the Nadeshiko Challenge Enterprises.” Furthermore, they will also select enterprises that have been engaging in pioneering empowerment initiatives in certain subjects under the Noteworthy Enterprises category.
