Cross-border M&A Forum Titled “Cross-border M&A: a Trigger Encouraging Companies to Cultivate Business Growth - Methodology for Taking Advantage of Cross-border M&A for Management” to be Held

On April 17 (Wed.), 2019, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and Nikkei Inc. will jointly hold a cross-border M&A forum. This forum has two main aims: to explain key points considered significant in ensuring the success of cross-border M&A; and to provide management strategies that can serve as triggers that will encourage companies to take advantage of cross-border M&A to cultivate business growth.

1. Background to and purpose of the forum

In FY2017, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) established a Study Group for Japanese Companies’ Cross-border M&A. Since then, the study group has been holding discussions on challenges that Japanese companies are facing and efforts for overcoming them and, in March 2018, compiled the discussion results into two documents and released them as outcomes: (1) “Report on Discussion Results of the Study Group for Japanese Companies’ Cross-border M&A,” (a compilation of key points that Japanese companies should understand in order to effectively take advantage of cross-border M&A and reference case examples) and (2) “Nine Actions for Successful Cross-border &A.” The study group will continue to interview companies actively engaged in cross-border M&A and hold discussions with experts.

Bringing together leading players from a variety of fields, the Cross-border M&A Forum will explain key points that are considered significant in driving the success of cross-border M&A and management strategies that can serve as triggers to encourage companies to engage in cross-border M&A to cultivate business growth.

Date and time: April 17 (Wed.), 2019; from 13:00 to 16:50 (doors will open at 13:00)
Venue: Nikkei Conference Room (6th floor of Nikkei Building; 1-3-7 Otemachi, Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo)
Capacity: 250 (Admission: Free of charge)
