Collaboration Team between the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Ministry of the Environment will be Inaugurated for Creating Regional Circulatory Symbiosis and Establishing a Distributed Energy System
April 12, 2019
Jointly with the Ministry of the Environment
With the aim of creating regional circulatory symbiosis and establishing a distributed energy system, a Collaboration Team for the Creation of Regional Circulatory Symbiosis and Establishment of Distributed Energy System (hereinafter referred to as the “Collaboration Team”) will be inaugurated. The Collaboration Team will be jointly headed by the Director-General for Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Department, Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and the Director-General for Policy Coordination, Minister’s Secretariat, Ministry of the Environment.
A distributed energy system is important for promoting energy conservation, disseminating renewable energy, and strengthening the overall energy system. At the same time, the introduction of a distributed energy system is integral to the process of creating a community, such as designing a compact city and building a transportation system therefor, and will contribute to the growth of the given region where it is introduced and to the creation of regional circulatory symbiosis.
From such a perspective, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) will inaugurate the Collaboration Team jointly headed by the Director-General for Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Department, Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, METI and the Director-General for Policy Coordination, Minister’s Secretariat, MOE. The Collaboration Team will discuss the following matters in collaboration with other relevant ministries and agencies regarding policies effective for both the creation of regional circulatory symbiosis and the establishment of a distributed energy system, in light of the Strategic Energy Plan and the Basic Environmental Plan. Concurrent appointment may be considered for members of the Collaboration Team as needed or otherwise efforts will be made flexibly to establish a smooth collaboration system. (See the attachment for detail.)
2. Matters to be discussed by the Collaboration Team(1) Establishment of a distributed energy system in a region through a joint demonstration project, etc.
(2) Cost reduction aiming to make renewable energy the major power source, dissemination of renewable energy in local communities, and enhancement of efficiency in environmental assessments
(3) Decarbonization efforts on the demand side of local communities and individual consumers of energy
