Series of Explanatory Meetings of Intellectual Property Rights in 2019 to be Held Targeting IP Beginners

JPO to provide opportunities for users to learn approaches to taking advantage of inventions, designs and trademarks

The Japan Patent Office (JPO) and the National Center for Industrial Property Information and Training (INPIT) will hold a series of explanatory meetings concerning the intellectual property (IP) rights systems, such as patent rights, in all 47 prefectures across Japan free of charge. These meetings will explain basic knowledge on IP rights, measures for supporting SMEs provided by the JPO and the INPIT and other information.

1. Target participants and details of the meetings

The JPO and the INPIT will hold a series of explanatory meetings targeting IP beginners who are interested in learning the basic overview of the IP rights systems or who need to learn it. These meetings will explain information that participants are able to use in business practices, including basic knowledge on IP rights and effects brought about by making use of IP rights. Along with this, the meetings will also explain a variety of measures for supporting SMEs in IP activities that are provided by the JPO and the INPIT.

2. Outline of the meetings

  1. Period: 61 meetings from May to September 2019
  2. Venues: 47 prefectures across Japan
  3. Capacity: Fixed number to be set depending on respective venues (first-come-first-served basis)
  4. Admission: Free (documents will be distributed free of charge as well)
  5. Speakers: Experts in the field of industrial property from the JPO and others
  6. Organizers: The JPO, the INPIT, the Intellectual Property Offices of the Bureaus of Economy, Trade and Industry, and the Intellectual Property Office of the Okinawa General Bureau of the Cabinet Office
