Fourth Round of Certification Issued to IT-Training Courses Meeting the Fourth Industrial Revolution

Under the Program for Certifying Courses on IT-Skill Training to Meet the Era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (commonly called “Re-Skill Courses”), the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry has been certifying expertise and practical educational training courses mainly in the fields of IT and data.

Concerning the fourth round of the program, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) hereby announces that it has certified 10 courses proposed by 6 businesses after strict examinations.

1. Outline of the certification

(1) Current situation of application filing

The program aims to certify, under the name of the METI Minister, expertise and practical educational training courses targeted at workers mainly in the fields of IT and data, in which future growth is strongly anticipated and significant contributions to employment creation are forecasted, thereby providing opportunities for workers to acquire advanced knowledge and expertise, and progress in their careers.

From February 13 to March 12, 2019, METI accepted the fourth round of applications for courses scheduled to start after October 2019.

(2) Examination results

Concerning the proposed courses submitted by the applicants, METI certified 10 courses proposed by 6 businesses based on the results of strict examinations by experts in terms of technical matters and  an external examination committee. For the list of the courses that received the certification, see the Appendix.

2. Effective period of the certification

This certification targets courses scheduled to start after October 2019, and the effective period of the certification is three years from October 1, 2019.

Note: If the courses that have been certified by the METI Minister meet certain requirements stipulated by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) and are designated so by the MHLW Minister, they are entitled to the benefits provided by the Education and Training Benefit System.

3. Coming schedule for the next round of certification

Regarding the next round of certification, METI will call for new applicants for courses scheduled to start after April 2020 and will start accepting applications for the certification process of such courses around July 2019.
