The 2nd Well Aging Society Summit Asia-Japan to be Held

METI starts a call for venture businesses, supporting organizations and co-events

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has been holding Japan Healthcare Business Contests and other events to uncover and support venture businesses and other entities that will contribute to solving challenges that Japanese healthcare industries are facing. Following on from 2018, METI will hold the 2nd Well Aging Society Summit Asia-Japan, an international conference providing business matching opportunities not only to convey outstanding services of the industries to people inside and outside Japan but also encourage investors, companies and other entities inside and outside Japan to invest in health care businesses in Japan and elsewhere.

Specifically, the summit will provide keynote speeches by experts and other leading players, panel discussions of such experts, and pitch presentation contests by venture businesses and other entities inside and outside Japan sorted by examinations. Moreover, the summit will present business matching opportunities bringing together companies, investors and other entities as potential business partners for venture businesses and other entities in developing business in Japan and other countries.

These opportunities are considered to create a new unique and effective healthcare industry in Japan, a country facing a super-aged society, as a base field of such industry, and the outcomes of such creation is expected to contribute to extension of the healthy lifespan of people not only in Japan but worldwide.

As part of this effort, on June 20 (Thur.), 2019, METI will start a call for [i] venture businesses as speakers at the pitch presentation contests, [ii] supporting organizations as supporters for venture businesses that will hold a presentation at the pitch presentation contests in business-matching and other events, and [iii] co-events in which each co-event will provide opportunities to raise public awareness of other co-events or convey information on them, and vice versa.

1. Outline of the summit

Title: 2nd Well Aging Society Summit Asia-Japan

Date and time: October 16 (Wed.) and 17 (Thur.), 2019; from 10:00 a.m. (tentative)

Venue: Muromachi Mitsui Hall & Conference (3rd floor of Nihonbashi Muromachi Mitsui Tower; 3-2-1 Nihombashi Muromachi, Chuo Ward, Tokyo)

Organizer: METI

Co-organizers (tentative): The Office of Healthcare Policy, Cabinet Secretariat; the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW); and the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED)

Co-events: The 46th International Home Care & Rehabilitation Exhibition; BioJapan 2019; Japan Healthcare Venture Summit (organized by MHLW); CEATEC 2019; and Japan Healthcare Business Contest (organized by METI)

2. Details of the summit

The summit will provide keynote speeches, pitch presentation contests, panel discussions and a networking event. At the pitch presentation contest, speakers will hold a presentation concerning one of the subjects below and a Grand Prix winner will be selected for each subject. At a panel discussion, etc., panelists will hold discussions on current situations of and challenges in respective fields, future efforts and other issues.

3. Call for venture businesses, supporting organizations and co-events

On June 20 (Thur.), 2019, METI will start a call for companies, organizations and other entities for three categories below as participants in or cooperators for the 2nd Well Aging Society Summit Asia-Japan. No charge is required for registration for any categories.

(1) Venture businesses

Eligible venture businesses should be those that are involved in either one of the subjects above and wish to hold a presentation at a pitch presentation contest. Participating venture businesses in such a contest will have the chance to convey their information to people both inside and outside Japan and the chance to attend business matching opportunities with support companies.

(2) Supporting organizations

Eligible supporting organizations should be companies or organizations willing to support venture businesses, which will hold a presentation at a pitch presentation contest, in developing their businesses and growth. Participating supporting organizations in a pitch presentation contest will have the chance to collect information on venture businesses inside and outside Japan and will take advantage of business matching opportunities in developing their own business.

(3) Co-events

Eligible co-events should be those related to health care or related fields, including contests, symposiums and incubations, and they will be held taking the opportunity of the Healthcare Innovation Weeks Asia-Japan 2019 scheduled to be held from the end of September to October 2019. Each co-event should provide opportunities to convey or explain information on other co-events, and vice versa. Moreover, these events should provide opportunities for venture businesses, which will hold a presentation at a pitch presentation contest, to deliver a speech or showcase displays. Through these occasions, organizers of co-events are expected to have more opportunities for business matching.
