Counseling Counters Open for Foreign Residents Working in the Manufacturing Industry

July 8, 2019

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) opened counseling counters for addressing requests for consultation from foreign residents working in Japan who have the status of residence of the Specific Skills in Category 1 or who wish to obtain the status, taking advantage of the new system for acceptance of foreign human resources under the Revised Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act.

1. Outline

Regarding the industries under the jurisdiction of METI, the new system targets three sectors in the manufacturing industry: [i] machine parts and tooling, [ii] industrial machinery manufacturing, and [iii] electric and electronic information-related sectors. These sectors have started acceptance of foreign human resources certified as those falling under Category 1 of the Specific Skills under the new system.  METI decided to open counseling counters across Japan for foreign residents working in Japan.
