METI Minister Seko Holds Meeting with H.E. Mr. Bouasone Bouphavanh, President of the National Institute for Economic Research (NIER), Lao PDR

Mr. Hiroshige Seko, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, held a meeting in Tokyo with H.E. Mr. Bouasone Bouphavanh, President of the National Institute for Economic Research (NIER), and former Prime Minister of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
In the afternoon of August 26, 2019, Minister Seko held a meeting in Tokyo with President Bouasone, NIER, Lao PDR, taking the opportunity of the president’s visit to Japan.
At the meeting, President Bouasone explained the current economic situations in Lao PDR and, based on this, expressed his gratitude to Minister Seko for Japan’s past cooperation with the country.
Following this, the two sides exchanged views on expansion of bilateral cooperation, including promotion of investments in Lao PDR and efforts for addressing the digital economy, as well as promotion of cooperation between research institutes in Japan and Lao PDR, and agreed that the countries will continue to collaborate in these fields.
