Commendation Ceremony for the FY2019 Factory Greening Award Program to be Held to Recognize Winners of METI Minister’s Award

National Award for Factory Greening

October 23, 2019

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has been conducting the Factory Greening Award Program (commonly called the “National Award for Factory Greening” program) aiming to recognize factories and businesses that have actively promoted greening of their factories and made remarkable achievements in improving the environments inside and outside their factories. METI hereby announces that it has determined two winners of the METI Minister’s Award under the FY2019 award program.

On October 28 (Mon.), 2019, METI will hold a commendation ceremony to recognize the winners, taking the opportunity of the 38th National Assembly of Factory Greening Promotion Initiatives, an event organized by the Japan Greenery Research and Development Center.

1. Outline of the award program

The award program aims to recognize businesses that operate factories under the mindset stipulated in the Factory Location Law, that proactively promote greening of their factories and that have made remarkable achievements in improving the environments inside and outside their factories. Through this program, METI aims to encourage businesses to further promote factory greening.

Efforts for promoting greening of factories will help to establish favorable interactions between factories and their neighboring environments and further promote harmonization between factories and the community environment and society.

Since its inauguration in FY1982, METI has conducted the award program 38 times as of FY2019 and had recognized 173 factories and businesses as winners of the METI Minister’s Award as of FY2018 based on the results of on-site surveys and examinations by external experts.

Moreover, one factory from the winners has been selected and honored every fiscal year with the Prime Minister's Commendations for Contributors to the National Greening Campaign外部リンク, taking the opportunity of the Ceremony of Awarding the MIDORI Prize外部リンク, organized by the Cabinet Office.

In addition to these winners of the METI Minister’s Award, METI determined nine winners of the Director-General’s Award of a Regional Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry, while the Japan Greenery Research and Development Center determined 15 winners of the Chairperson’s Award of the Japan Greenery Research and Development Center and other awards. METI collectively calls these awards the “National Award for Factory Greening.”
