Japan and Lithuania Conclude Memorandum of Cooperation in the Energy Field

On October 23, 2019, Mr. SUGAWARA Isshu, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, and H.E. Mr. Žygimantas Vaičiūnas, Minister of Energy, Lithuania, concluded a memorandum of cooperation (MOC) in the energy field. This memorandum was concluded with the opportunity presented by the Lithuanian-Japanese Business Forum and witnessed by H.E. Mr. Gitanas Nausėda, President of Lithuania.
1. Background
As the world faces significant changes in energy situations, and the importance of countermeasures against global warming and stable energy supply is growing day by day, Japan and Lithuania recognize that they share many challenges involving energy. Under these circumstances, on October 23, 2019, Minister Sugawara and Minister Vai
iknas concluded an MOC in the energy field in order to consolidate Japan-Lithuania cooperation on energy in a variety of fields, including electricity grids, LNG, renewable energy and energy efficiency. This MOC was concluded with the opportunity presented by the Lithuanian-Japanese Business Forum, organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Japan and Enterprise Lithuania, and was witnessed by President Nausda of Lithuania.
2. Key points of the MOC
Under the MOC, Japan and Lithuania will strive to promote collaboration in the energy field as follows:
(1) Cooperation areas
Electricity grids, LNG, renewable energy, energy efficiency, etc.
(2) Cooperation activities
Policy dialogue, exchange of knowledge, joint research, promotion of investment, etc.
