Minister Kajiyama Holds Meeting with WIPO Director General Gurry

Mr. Kajiyama Hiroshi, the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, held a meeting with Dr. Francis Gurry, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). They reached a consensus on knowledge and information sharing in order to appropriately protect intellectual property related to new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI). 

On Wednesday, February 19, Minister Kajiyama met with Dr. Francis Gurry, Director General of WIPO*, who is visiting Japan.

They confirmed the importance of appropriately protecting intellectual property related to new technologies such as AI, in line with the rapid progress of technological innovation, as well as reached a consensus on knowledge and information sharing on the future state of the IP system.  

*World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO): A specialized organization of the United Nations that administers international intellectual property systems.
