February 19, 2020

The Japan Patent Office (JPO) participated as a partner in the online platform “WIPO GREEN” to promote the utilization of green technologies, which is run by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The JPO will work together with WIPO to continuously strive to facilitate the spread of green technologies in the world.

1.About WIPO GREEN

WIPO is a specialized agency of the United Nations which governs international intellectual property systems. The agency formulates regulations on IP systems and operates the international IP application/registration systems, and takes initiatives to solve the various issues related to intellectual properties.

WIPO GREEN was established by WIPO in 2013 to give a boost to the spread of green technologies. The activities of WIPO GREEN focus on encouraging the utilization of green technologies by promoting business matchmaking between the providers and users, utilizing the databases, and holding events. More than 3,600 technologies are stored in the database, and over 1,400 users are registered.

2.Participation of the JPO

On Wednesday, February 19, 2020, the JPO participated in the online platform WIPO GREEN as a partner.

Over 100 partners, including government agencies, industry groups, companies, and universities, have participated in the activities, and in fact the JPO was the first IP Office in the Asia-Pacific Region to participate in this platform.

Partners are members of the WIPO GREEN Advisory Board, who work together with the International Bureau of WIPO to lead discussions at WIPO GREEN. They play a key role, offering support and advice on its activities.

The JPO will continue to support the spread of green technologies as a partner by giving advice on the activities of WIPO GREEN and sharing knowledge with other partners.
