This system, operated by the Service Design Engineering Council, aims to provide a framework of standards that all businesses providing services are recommended to meet to provide, maintain and improve quality services and thereby to achieve higher productivity. Under this system, businesses are ranked in three color-based grades of the certification: Kin (gold), Kon (navy) and Murasaki (purple).

The candidate is then eligible for receiving a Murasaki Certification, the highest grade. The degree of maturity of the efforts is also examined by the certification body.
Businesses that have received Murasaki Certification are recognized for their superiority over other businesses regarding the following points.
