Second Meeting as Opportunity for Receiving Opinions from Parties Concerned to be Held Concerning Handling ALPS Treated Water

April 6, 2020

*Note on April 9: Meeting will be held via video conference between Tokyo and Fukushima.
Concerning handling of multi-nuclide removal equipment (ALPS) at TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, purified through ALPS and other equipment, the Subcommittee on Handling of the ALPS Treated Water held a series of comprehensive discussions from November 2016 on such water, including potential negative impacts on society (e.g., reputational damage) and compiled the discussion results into a report in February, 2020. In response, based on the report, the government will hold a second meeting on April 13, 2020 as an opportunity to receive opinions from a wide variety of concerned parties, including representatives of local municipalities and associations and businesses in the fields of agriculture, forestry and fisheries as an effort towards determining the government’s policies for approaches to handling ALPS treated water.
