Call to Open for Applicants to Lead the Project for Research and Development of Enhanced Infrastructures for Post 5G Information Communication Systems
May 1, 2020
On April 15, 2020, the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (hereinafter referred to as “NEDO”) will open a call for applicants to lead the Project for Research and Development of Enhanced Infrastructures for Post 5G Information Communication Systems.
1. Purpose
The fifth-generation mobile communications system (5G) is an advanced technology more sophisticated than the fourth-generation mobile communications system (4G). While companies around the world have been launching commercial 5G services, they are also enhancing the capabilities of 5G further, e.g., ultra-low latency and simultaneous connections of multiple terminals, and calling this enhanced 5G “post 5G.” Post 5G is expected to be used in a variety of industrial applications in such fields as manufacturing plants and automobiles and to become a potential core technology in delivering international competitiveness to Japanese industries. This project aims to develop core technologies of information communication systems tailored to post 5G (hereinafter referred to as “post 5G information communication systems”) in order to enhance infrastructures for developing and manufacturing such post 5G information communication systems in Japan.
2. Outline of the project
(1) Developing post 5G information communication systems (initiative to be commissioned)
This initiative aims to develop systems that are considered important in particular in achieving the performance demanded in post 5G and to develop related technologies used for such systems, e.g., semiconductors.
(2) Developing technologies for manufacturing leading-edge semiconductors (initiative to be subsidized)
This initiative aims to develop technologies for manufacturing logic semiconductors with leading-edge characteristics that no one has ever seen before in Japan by building pilot lines and other devices.
Notes:
