The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) compiled a report on economic indices concerning production, private consumption, business investment and other elements for each region in order to ascertain the trends in regional economies across Japan.
With the spread of the novel coronavirus disease, the current economic situation has been changing dramatically.
Please note that the economic trends published here are a compilation of statistics for each region as of March 2020.
- Indices of industrial production (seasonally adjusted; month-on-month basis) improved in three regions, i.e., the Hokkaido, Shikoku and Kyushu regions, while they decreased in six regions, including the Tohoku, Kanto, Tokai and Kinki regions.
- Sales in the month on a year-on-year basis in six types of business in the retail trade industry showed a decrease in all eight regions.
