Call for Applicants for New Diversity Management Selection 100 and Diversity Management Selection 100 Prime in FY2020 Starts on July 22 (Wed.), 2020

- Explanatory meeting on the call will be held online on August 4 (Tue.), 2020 -

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has been conducting initiatives to broadly introduce the efforts of leading enterprises that connect diversity management promotion efforts to their business achievements and to expand the base of enterprises promoting such management. As part of the initiatives, METI has been recognizing outstanding enterprises in such management under the METI Minister Award program of the New Diversity Management Selection 100. On July 22 (Wed.), 2020, METI will start a call for applicants for the FY2020 New Diversity Management Selection 100.

In addition, on the same date, METI will start a call for applications for a program titled “Diversity Management 100 Prime,” aiming to recognize enterprises engaging in a diversity management program called “Diversity 2.0” in upgrading their efforts in order to continue to create corporate value over a longer period, closer to the mid- to long-term.

METI will hold an online explanatory meeting on these programs and selection on August 4 (Tue.), 2020.

1. Outline of these programs

To strengthen Japanese enterprises’ competitiveness in the face of economic globalization and an aging society with fewer children, it is necessary to promote diversity management, which provides diverse human resources, including women, foreign nationals, the elderly, and people with disabilities, with opportunities to exercise their potential to the maximum extent possible and to take part in the value creation process, as an effective strategy.

METI inaugurated the New Diversity Management Selection 100 program in FY2012, aiming to expand the base of enterprises which promote diversity management, and has recognized 268 enterprises to date. In FY2017, METI launched the Diversity Management Selection 100 Prime program to select outstanding enterprises out of those that have already been recognized under the existing programs, and it has selected 6 enterprises to date.

(This website presents the best practices of the enterprises that were recognized and selected in the previous programs.)

Outline of the Diversity 2.0 program

This program aims to encourage enterprises to utilize the diversity within their human resources as a whole and exercise the ability of such resources to the maximum extent possible, so as to create value added on a continuous basis.

2. Information on calls for applicants for the New Diversity Management Selection 100 program and the Diversity Management Selection 100 Prime program in FY2020

(1) Eligible enterprises and efforts as applicants for the FY2020 New Diversity Management Selection 100
Any enterprise is eligible if it has been making efforts to engage in diversity management, which has led to concrete business successes, regardless of the size of the enterprise.

METI will open a call for a wide range of applicants for these programs, focusing on the following priority issues as initiatives in which enterprises are expected to further engage in the future.

  1. Employment of management consisting of a variety of human resources
  2. Promotion of diversity in careers
  3. Working style or management reforms
  4. Active involvement in business by foreign nationals, the elderly and people with disabilities in the workplace
  5. Active involvement in business by human resources across organizational borders of enterprises

(2) Enterprises and efforts eligible for the FY2020 Diversity Management Selection 100 Prime program

Eligible enterprises are those that have been recognized as winners under the Diversity Management Selection 100 and the New Diversity Management Selection 100 and that have been undertaking the Seven Key Actions for Practice under the Diversity 2.0 Action Guidelines as a management mechanism under which they continue to create mid- to long-term corporate value added. Please note that enterprises that have not been recognized under those selections before are still eligible for both the New Diversity Management Selection 100 program and the Diversity Management Selection 100 Prime program in FY2020, if they are undertaking those specified actions.

(3) How to apply

Access the following New Diversity Management Selection 100/Diversity Management Selection 100 Prime website, complete an application form according to the instructions and send the form by postal mail or email to the secretariat. The guidance and the application form will be published on July 20 (Wed.), 2020, on the website below.

(4) Period of the call

From July 22 (Wed.) to 12:00 noon, September 14 (Mon.), 2020 (applications must arrive by this time on the closing date.)

(5) Application selection and schedule of the commendation ceremony

An examination committee will evaluate the applicants and select winners. A commendation ceremony is scheduled to be held on March 22 (Mon.), 2021.

Note: This schedule may change due to spread of the novel coronavirus disease and other situations.

3. Online explanatory meeting on the application for the New Diversity Management Selection 100 program and the Diversity Management Selection 100 Prime program in FY2020

METI will hold an online explanatory meeting on the overview information on the New Diversity Management Selection 100 program and the Diversity Management Selection 100 Prime program in FY2020.

At the online meeting, there will be presentations by experts concerning diversity management and panel discussions concerning promotion of diversity management bringing together recognized and selected enterprises in the FY2019 programs. METI will also specifically explain key points to be noted in filing applications for the FY2020 programs.
