1. Outline of the “Chizai no Mikata - Itinerant Patent Office-”

The JPO has been holding a series of annual IP events for assisting businesses called “Chizai no Mikata - Itinerant Patent Office-” in a variety of areas across Japan with free admission, upholding the concept “changing businesses’ preconceptions about IP, such as IP as a less relevant matter or difficult matter, and helping businesses understand IP as a familiar tool for protecting businesses.” The events this year will provide seminars that help businesses change their preconceptions about IP by bringing together experts in a variety of fields as speakers and will also provide a “Chizaihirometai Seminar” (seminar for popularizing IP), a side event organized by the Japan Patent Attorneys Association (JPAA) at which patent attorneys who play a leading role in host cities of the events explain IP in an easy-to-understand manner. Moreover, the events will provide a consultation counter by personnel in charge for supporting businesses dispatched from the Consultation Counters on Comprehensive IP Support Measures organized by the National Center for Industrial Property Information and Training (INPIT) and the Yorozu Support Centers, targeting businesses facing challenges in IP and management.

In FY2020, the JPO will hold such events in nine cities in nine regions, among which six cities will host the events for the first time, and will vitalize these regions taking advantage of IP.

Scheduled host cities

Asahikawa City, Hokkaido Prefecture; Akita City, Akita Prefecture (first time); Nagano Prefecture (first time); Toyama City, Toyama Prefecture (first time); Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture; Yonago City, Tottori Prefecture (first time); Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture; Miyazaki City, Miyazaki Prefecture (first time); and Nago City, Okinawa Prefecture (first time).
