On August 27, 2020, Minister Kajiyama attended the Eighth RCEP Ministerial Meeting which was held via video conference. At the meeting, the ministers in attendance confirmed the progress since the ministerial meeting in June 2020 and they held candid and active discussions on approaches to future negotiations.
The ministers of RCEP member countries shared a view that signing of the RCEP Agreement by the end of 2020 will contribute to the stability of the regional supply chains and further economic growth as the expansion of COVID-19 is still causing negative impacts on the global economy.
Moreover, the ministers were pleased with the significant progress made towards finalizing negotiations of the RCEP Agreement and reiterated that the RCEP remains open for India.
Furthermore, the ministers issued a Joint Media Statement at the meeting (see the Appendix).
