METI to Collaborate with Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka in Export Control

As part of the efforts under the FY2020 Outreach Project for SMEs and Other Businesses, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will collaborate with the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) and the Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Tokyo (TCCI), Nagoya (NCCI) and Osaka (OCCI) to support SMEs in establishing export control systems.

1. Outline of the project

Since FY2019, METI has been advancing the Outreach Project for SMEs and Other Businesses to support SMEs in establishing export control and other systems and frameworks. Under the project, METI has been undertaking a variety of initiatives, such as holding explanatory meetings targeting SMEs and encouraging experts in export control to provide advice and instructions to SMEs, and through these initiatives, METI aims to support SMEs in establishing security export control systems and to prevent the outflow of sensitive technologies held by SMEs. As an effort under the FY2020 project, METI will collaborate with JCCI, TCCI, NCCI and OCCI and implement the project. In addition, it is scheduled to discuss expansion of the project to other regions in light of the progress in this collaboration.

2. Details of the project

(1) Opening expert consultation counters

METI will open consultation counters with experts on security export control for SMEs and small enterprises. At such counters, SMEs are able to receive free-of-charge consultation services with experts with rich practical experience in export control and other related fields, by simply registering in advance with TCCI, NCCI or OCCI. Moreover, if necessary, such experts will visit companies and support them in establishing internal export control systems or improving the operation of such systems.

(2) Holding explanatory meetings and face-to-face counseling events

METI will hold a series of explanatory meetings in which a variety of information on export control and other fields will be provided to participants. The events will mainly be held in Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka. Any person can participate in such meetings irrespective of the scale of his/her company. As side events to these meetings, METI will also hold face-to-face counseling events, mainly in Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka, focusing on the subject of export control.
