Granting Certificate of Approval to Research Institute as Approved Entity Certifying Security Measures of Companies to Prevent Technological Information from Being Compromised under Act on Strengthening Industrial Competitiveness

Since September 2018, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has been operating a system under the Act on Strengthening Industrial Competitiveness in which METI issues approvals to businesses for their appropriate management of their technological and other information.

METI hereby announces that the Kansai Research Institute for Information Security was approved as the “Fifth Approved Entity Certifying Security Measures of Companies to Prevent Technological Information from Being Compromised” under the system, and on September 11, 2020, Mr. Nakano Hiromasa, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, granted a certificate of approval to the organization.

1. Outline of the system for certifying security measures of companies to prevent technological information from being compromised

Since September 2018, METI has been operating a system under the Act on Strengthening Industrial Competitiveness in which METI issues approvals to businesses for their appropriate management of their technological and other information, aiming to encourage businesses to prevent sensitive technologies or information which they hold from being compromised.

2. Approval of an entity certifying security measures of companies to prevent technological information from being compromised

METI hereby announces that on August 28, 2020, the Kansai Research Institute for Information Security was approved as the “Fifth Approved Entity Certifying Security Measures of Companies to Prevent Technological Information from Being Compromised” under the system, and on September 11, 2020, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Nakano granted a certificate of approval to the organization. In granting the certificate, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Nakano stated that monodzukuri (manufacturing) technologies are the base of Japan’s competitiveness and delivered his expectations that management of technological and other information will be promoted through this system.
