In October 2020, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will integrally host the following six conferences, which are collectively called “Tokyo ‘Beyond-Zero’ Week.”
- Innovation for Cool Earth Forum (ICEF) 2020: October 7 and 8
- Research and Development 20 for Clean Energy Technologies (RD20): October 9
- Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) Summit 2020: October 9
- Ninth LNG Producer-Consumer Conference: October 12
- International Conference on Carbon Recycling 2020: October 13
- Hydrogen Energy Ministerial Meeting: October 14
Japan has been aiming at improving the competitiveness of new industries toward a virtuous cycle of environment and growth through the achievement of “Environmental Innovation for Beyond-Zero”, which is an approach to establishing innovative technologies which not only allow carbon neutral efforts to become possible worldwide, but also to realize the “Beyond-Zero” initiative for retroactively reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in accordance with the stock-based approach, and publicly implementing the technologies.
To this end, METI will host a series of related international conferences as Tokyo “Beyond-Zero” Week for the first time. The purpose of the conferences will be to present the respective issues that member countries must resolve as well as approaches and methods to overcome such challenges.
These conferences will bring together ministerial officials of the governments from the United States, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other countries, IEA Executive Director Dr. Fatih Birol, and other representatives of international organizations and research institutes from around the world, people executing leadership in innovation and representatives of industry players, for the purpose of holding a wide variety of discussions. Taking these opportunities, Japan will present both an overview of and specific approaches to the virtuous cycle of environment and growth as a commonly shared global value, and continue to develop interactions with other countries while both presenting Japan’s innovations to the rest of the world and incorporating other countries’ innovations into Japan.
