October Campaign to Intensively Encourage Companies to Conduct Self-Diagnoses of Assessment Indices for Digital Management Reforms (“DX Promotion Indices”)

October 1, 2020

Concerning the Assessment Indices for Digital Management Reforms (“DX Promotion Indices”) compiled by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) in July 2019, the Information-technology Promotion Agency, Japan (IPA) has released a “Website for Companies to Input the Results of their Self-Diagnoses of DX Promotion Indices” in order to collect and analyze the results of self-diagnoses of such indices by companies. If companies conduct self-diagnoses and submit the results to the IPA, the IPA will provide the companies with a “benchmark,” data based on which such companies are able to compare the current situations of their efforts for DX and other companies’ situations thereof. If a company submits the result of its self-diagnosis of the DX Promotion Indices by October 31, 2020, the IPA will provide it with a preliminary version of the benchmark around mid-November 2020.

1. Overview

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) compiled guidelines titled “‘DX Promotion Indices’ and Guidance Therefor” in July 2019 for the purpose of encouraging Japanese companies to promote digital management reforms. This compilation of indices is a tool to help companies to: diagnose themselves in terms of the progress in their efforts for DX promotion in a simple manner; share the recognition of current situations of and challenges in their efforts for DX promotion among executives and personnel in the business operation, DX, and IT departments; and have opportunities to raise awareness of DX, which may lead the companies to cultivating future actions that they should take.

2. Requesting cooperation in inputting the results of self-diagnoses

If a company inputs and submits the result of its self-diagnosis of the DX Promotion Indices to the IPA, the IPA will provide, at a later date, the company with a report on the IPA’s analysis result of the company’s self-diagnosis together with a benchmark, based on which the company is able to compare the result of its self-diagnosis to the data on the entire results. Taking advantage of the analysis results, the respective companies will be able to check their own data against the benchmark and examine future actions that they should take. METI wishes that many companies will input the results of their self-diagnoses. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

3. Future schedule

The IPA will provide companies that submit the results of their self-diagnoses by October 31, 2020, via the following website with a preliminary version of the FY2020 benchmark around mid-November 2020. The IPA has been publishing analysis reports on the DX Promotion Indices and it will release the FY2020 analysis report around March 2021.
