The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will hold meetings of the Round Table Conference on Ideal Approaches to Export and Investment Insurance. This conference aims to: sort out such issues as emerging challenges in Export and Investment Insurance caused by impacts of the recent novel coronavirus disease (hereinafter referred to as the novel coronavirus (COVID-19)) and changes in demands of users for Export and Investment Insurance in accordance with changes in ideal approaches to overseas business; and hold discussions on future directions of response measures.

1. Background to convening the conference and other information

As the pandemic of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is causing impacts on Japanese companies’ overseas business, such as trade and investments, Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI) has been needed to further address such impacts.

In light of this situation, it is considered being important to analyze emerging challenges in Export and Investment Insurance caused by impacts of the recent novel coronavirus (COVID-19). In addition, as potential risks, such as a tension between the United States and China, and climate change, may rise,it is essential to hold discussions measures so as to smoothly make responses to any crises caused by such risks.

Furthermore, as ideal approaches to overseas business is changing, a gap between the Export and Investment Insurance system and the current state of business is appearing, as some point out. To address this situation, it is also important that NEXI flexibly responds to user demand changes in order to proactively encourage overseas business of Japanese companies.

With this challenge in mind, METI will hold meetings of the Round Table Conference on Ideal Approaches to Export and Investment Insurance in order to study ideal approaches to future Export and Investment Insurance, through holding discussions with experts and stakeholders.

2. Convening of the first meeting of the conference

On October 13 (Tue.), 2020, METI will hold the first meeting of the conference.

The meeting will not be open to the public in order to ensure an opportunity for members of the conference to exchange their opinions in a frank and free manner.

3. Distributed documents and other information

METI will make public a list of the members of the conference, some of the documents distributed at the meeting and a summary of the minutes on the METI website after the meeting. (Only Japanese language version of them are available.)
