On October 23 (Fri.), 2020, an APEC SME Ministerial Meeting was held via video conference, and Mr. Sato Kei, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, attended the meeting as a representative of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). At the meeting, ministers in attendance held discussions on policies and measures for supporting SMEs amid expansion of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) as well as adopting a ministerial statement.
On October 23 (Fri.), 2020, an APEC SME Ministerial Meeting was held via video conference, and Parliamentary Vice-Minister Sato attended the meeting as a representative of METI.
At the meeting, ministers in attendance held discussions on mitigation of impacts caused by expansion of COVID-19 on SMEs and digitalization of SMEs. Parliamentary Vice-Minister Sato proposed to APEC member countries the need for promoting efforts for building an inclusive, sustainable relationship between large companies and SMEs for mutual growth.
As a result of these discussions, the ministers adopted a ministerial statement “Navigating the New Normal: Restarting and Reviving MSMEs through Digitalisation, Innovation and Technology” as an outcome of the meeting, which contains the results of discussions by member countries.
