Report on Results of Discussions by Round Table Conference on Ideal Approaches to Export and Investment Insurance Compiled

1. Background to convening the meetings and other information

The global pandemic of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is impacting Japanese companies’ overseas business in areas such as trade and investments. It has been necessary for Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI) to further address such impacts.

In light of this situation, it is considered important to analyze emerging challenges in Export and Investment Insurance caused by the impacts of the recent COVID-19 situation. In addition, as potential risks, such as tensions between the United States and China and climate change, may rise, it is essential to hold discussions on measures so as to smoothly make responses to any crises caused by such risks.

Furthermore, as approaches to overseas business are changing, it has been pointed out that a gap between the export and investment insurance system and the current state of business is appearing. To address this situation, it is also important that NEXI flexibly responds to user demand changes in order to proactively encourage overseas business of Japanese companies.

With this challenge in mind, METI had held meetings of the Round Table Conference on Ideal Approaches to Export and Investment Insurance in order to study ideal approaches to future export and investment insurance. At the conference, experts and industrial stakeholders met and advanced their discussions on the issue.

2. Report on discussion results

Based on the results of discussions by the Round Table Conference on Ideal Approaches to Export and Investment Insurance, METI compiled a report and hereby announces it.
